MOQHAKA
Moqhaka, the Sotho word for 'Crown/Head'. In pre-colonial Bantu culture, our warriors, our mothers, our children, our leaders and fathers were one with the world around them. We wore skins, feathers and hide as part of our day to day lives. A head dress was worn and its adornment was always dependent on ones place in the community. It was a calling placed upon me to continue this sacred act of identity, adornment and culture by re-creating my own various designs of eMoqhaka. What you see below is a collection of self-portraits; intimacy I have with the oneness of my ancient self, and the one who exists currently. nna le moqhaka ea ka.
